This pedal was built around the rock-solid Synopsis PCB from PedalPCB, which is based on Channel 2 of the Cornerstone Gladio. Cornerstone have never released this channel in a single pedal format, only for Channel 1 in the form of the Gladio SC. The SPR Pedals take on that pedal can be found in the Manuscript SC 1.
Channel 2 often described as the “angry” circuit side of the Cornerstone Gladio pedal. It is designed to offer a special flavour of hard clipping, sounding a bit fuzzy with a high harmonics generation result. This is definitely inspired by the tones of Sonny Landreth and Scott Henderson. Although technically not a “preamp, “ playing through a Compendium SC 2 makes your clean amp feel like you’re playing through a completely different amp.
The main controls (Gain, Tone, Volume) are fairly self explanatory. The presence control has been moved from being an internal trim pot on the Gladio to an external control on the Compendium SC 2. The Comp switch allows you to switch between two different settings of subtle compression.
There’s also a toggle for Jazz / Rock which you’ll have seen on many a Dumble amp. It adjusts the frequency response. The Jazz setting darkens and smooths things up, whereas the Rock setting adds more treble and is slightly brighter. But not overbearingly so.
Pedalboard friendly with top-mounted jacks in a 125B-sized aluminium enclosure. Powder-coated metallic candy purple paintwork with UV-printed labelling. A standard 9v centre negative power supply is required, there is no internal battery connection. The bright green LED mounted in a metal bezel let you know when the pedal is engaged.
Everything is hand assembled, soldered and individually tested here in Brisbane. SPR's pedals are built in very small batches. The pedal comes boxed.
